Everyone is invited to share our gift of an 11-circuit Meditative Labyrinth. Our Labyrinth is one of many across the globe whose constructions follow the design of the famous Chartres Cathedral Labyrinth in Chartres, France. Located on the grounds of the church sanctuary at 14920 SW 67 Avenue, Palmetto Bay, Florida; the labyrinth is easily accessible from 67th avenue. The better entry is from the southern most driveway to the church campus. The labyrinth is free for members and non-members alike.
The Labyrinth at Chartres, France dates back to 1205 when monks used it for serenity, prayer, and contemplation. The experience one receives from walking the labyrinth is a personal one. Some see it as a time for prayer and meditation. For others the experience is a time of spiritual growth and enlightenment.
Since ancient time, and for many pilgrims today, The Labyrinth seems to hold mysterious healing properties. Whatever experience the labyrinth may hold for you, it is important to enter the labyrinth with a sense of integrity, humility, respect, and reverence. The labyrinth is often sees as a metaphor of one's life journey, for one's spiritual journey, or one where some make no distinction between the two.
At first look some may see the labyrinth as a maze; it is not. The labyrinth is a single path laid out in a circular pattern. Just as life does not proceed in a straight line from birth to the goal of our life at the center, neither does the labyrinth. Rather, like life, the labyrinth path is a circular one, winding back and forth, sometimes drawing close to the center, and sometimes moving farther away from it, until we eventually reach the center.
In that sense the labyrinth can be seen as a metaphor for life, for wandering and trusting that if we stay on the right path we will move towards the center of the labyrinth of life and the goal of our spiritual journey.
